How can a Runaway Fire and Business be Similar? What lessons could come from such an hair raising experience?

Here is the Story!
It was March 23rd, 2015 and I just had finished our team call. I was just finishing up guest posting my blog post to my 3 favorite bloggers, Ray Higdon, Neil Patel and John Chow, made some breakfast and thought it is such a pretty calm day, I should burn the SMALL irrigation ditch on the upper end of the pasture.
So I went and got a shovel and proceeded out to accomplish my thought. Monitored the wind (there wasn’t any at first) made a decision to burn north to south, lit the head end and all was well. The ditch was burning as planned for about 5 min., then I felt a whisper of a breeze!
To be honest, I stopped watching TV back in 2005 (I will explain in a moment) , which is a blessing and a curse, as Today was a day I should have watched the News or weather report!
After a couple of minutes, the whisper of a breeze I had felt, quickly erupted into a steady 30mph straight line wind. My gentle, perfect burning, controlled situation, jumped my make shift fire break and it was off to the races.

As you can imagine, at first I was calmly but frantically, trying to stay ahead of the flames by slapping out the lead flames. After about 10 minutes, a neighbor showed up to ask if I needed help, then another neighbor and after about 15 minutes of running, sweat pouring and coughing due to the smoke, I reluctantly called a 3rd neighbor and said, “I need HELP, NOW!
We battled, the five of us, for about 20 minutes and realized that it was bigger than our equipment we were trying to use. So again, I called for more back up, this time, I was panicking and called neighbors with water trucks to help. By then the fire was very hungry and the wind was fueling its appetite!
When the fire jumped the fence and headed for the really tall dry grass and willow trees, close to my neighbors house, I did the only thing I could do, I admitted defeat and called 911…
It took them only about 3 minutes to arrive, but it felt like all day, I was shaking with fear, I was exhausted, my eyes were burning, my lungs hurt from all the smoke, and I started repeatedly saying, I am sorry!
The fire department quickly took charge of the anger beast (fire) and within 40 minutes the ordeal was over!
As I stood there in disbelief, the Fire Captain calmly explained that today was the worst day to attempt this feat, as we were under a high wind warning! He could tell I was visibly shook, my hands were still trembling and I had that 1000 yard stare, so he took my name and contact information made his men do one last verification the fire was out and then they left. I am sure the Sheriff will be out soon for the accident/investigation report for calling 911…but
What does this have to do with business?
You see, when your first starting out, you are by yourself, not equipped with the proper tools or knowledge, all you have is a vision, hope and will power!
Just like the story above, you lite a small flame, start your business, see it going the way you had planned, being successful, and then a problem comes up that forces you to find a solution.
At first it is just you and your dream, the fire is burning and your thrilled because it is going well, nobody knows your in business because the fire is only visible to you but then, opposition blows your way! You quickly realize that you do not know what to do and you do not have the proper tools, knowledge, you have to make a decision, throw your hands up and say the Hell with it and hope it blows over or…
Your forced to take all out ACTION, you leave your comfort zone, tell others and ask for the close (HELP!).
In the beginning no one knows about your business, like the fire, but let that fire consume you, and people will come from miles around to watch it burn. Meaning, if you will feed your fire (Dreams), and equip yourself with knowledge or tools, either out of necessity or on purpose, the more you feed it, the bigger that fire grows and then you can either wait for people to see the smoke or you can let people know-blog, email, video etc.., hey I have a Fire here.
Then and only then will you see that a runaway fire is exactly like starting your business. At first you’re a novice, but the more you feed that fire, you will be forced to adapt!
Are you nursing your little flame? What would happen if you fed the flame, and let others know that you have a fire? Do you think you would get attention with a roaring blaze or a flicker that your barely keeping alive?
Let the winds blow, and lets let that flicker of a fire (dream) turn into a spectacle that draws a crowd to watch you burn! Success is going to try you to see if your able to handle it, you have to grow, adapt, learn and apply! Nothing secret about it, Ready to lite it up?
